STAFFELBACH Wins Big at Design Ovation 2011

August 15, 2011

Internationally-recognized interior architecture and design firm, Staffelbach, is honored to be the recipient of four prestigious Design Ovation Awards presented by the American Society of Interior Designers.

“These awards are symbolic of the focus and intense creativity put into each design from our team members,” said Jo Heinz, President and CEO. “We work hard to cater to the needs of our clients while creating a timeless design that can be appreciated for generations.”

KOSMOS ENERGY

Best of Show Award and First Place Award – Commercial Design

First Place Award – Commercial Corporate

The design team won two awards for its work with Kosmos Energy. The company wanted to convey their deep respect for the African coastline where their oil discoveries originated. Staffelbach created an African theme throughout the design, selecting earthy tones for woods, textured wall coverings and custom carpets woven with tribal patterns of Ghana. The spaces also featured artwork, drums, artifacts and sculptures transported from Africa.

The team ensured all woods selected were non-endangered species and that the overall lighting was well below IECC allowed wattage. Despite the well-illuminated gallery of African art, lighting of low voltage and LED sources was also selected to maximize energy conservation and convey a deep respect for global conservation.

UNDISCLOSED FINANCIAL SERVICES FIRM

Second Place Award – Commercial Corporate

The headquarters for this Undisclosed Financial Institution was carefully designed to feature the owner’s art and antique collection. The challenge was to create a timelessly refined, contemporary structure that appealed to established clientele. Custom designed bronze and glass doors allow for visibility of the firm’s Board Room, Dining Room and Conference areas. Crown moldings and intricate columns add a high level of wood detailing to the spaces.

For the undisclosed financial client, the challenge was to introduce the highest level of security possible while maintaining an open and welcoming feel to the space. Extensive care was taken to integrate and conceal a large number of security cameras within the interior millwork and to ensure that the high level of security would be unobtrusive and undetected by the firm’s clients.

PLAINS CAPITAL BANK

Honorable Mention Award – Commercial Retail

In the tiny 1,800 square foot retail banking space, the design challenge was to emphasize Plains Capital Bank’s brand and pronounce it dramatically to passers by en route to arena activities. The branch, located next to the American Airlines arena, receives extensive foot traffic.

The team behind the Plains Capital Bank design conquered the challenge of integrating the highest possible level of security for the bank’s ATM and teller operations within the design. Materials were selected for durability and to withstand extensive traffic and potential abuse. Extensive camera locations were concealed and audio surveillance systems were designed to be invisible to the clientele.
